LAA, short for catheter-based interventional atrial appendage closure, is a minimally invasive procedure that takes about one hour.
By means of a catheter inserted via the groin vein, a little shield (occluder) is placed in the left atrial ear so that no dangerous blood clots can form there which could lead to a stroke.
LAA's or atrial appendage occlusions are part of the cardiological services offered by the Diagnostic and Therapeutic Heart Centre in Zurich.
